The Sheboygan Fire Department has a new fire engine. Engine 1864 was placed into service at noon on Wednesday (July 21st) at Station 4.

The new fire apparatus holds 750 gallons of water and has a 1500-gallon-per-minute water pump with foam capabilities.

In addition, the new engine will carry the department’s second set of battery-operated extrication equipment used to remove individuals from motor vehicle or heavy equipment accidents.

Besides many new technology and safety features on the engine, the most significant change citizens will notice is the new color scheme of black over red.

The department is transitioning from the previous white-over-red configuration to the new paint design created by the 2021 engine committee.

Engine 1864 will serve the community for the next 10-15 years as a frontline apparatus before being placed in reserve status.
